shouldn't forget our roots now, should we?

this is actually a high dynamic range image, although it may not look like it. one can say that it looks like something that we can see anywhere, and i can agree to that. in fact, that is exactly the point i want to make with this particular image. if you try to capture an image where there are bright highlights and very dark shadows, most often you would be hard pressed to choose which area to meter. that's the problem with photography (with digital, at least), but not with our eyes. our eyes have been created such that we can easily take in both the lights and shadows, praise be to God.

so, for this image, i tried as best as i could to maintain a very natural look and feel through my editing. i was especially conscious of trying to maintain the details in all parts of the picture, which was the whole idea of getting this picture in hdr. however, it does feel like the picture lacks a bit of oomph.

thoughts and comments are very much welcome.

ps - below are the pictures used to create the above composite image. see what i mean by the choice we have to make when metering? you gain some details in one part, but lose other details in another part (3/9/06).
