a not-so-recent image. for some reason, i just like the warm, fuzzy feeling that this picture evokes in me.

an icon (a nikon? some people pronounce it that way) for all ages.
shot with 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 and 50mm f1.8.
minimal editing: cropping, desaturation, contrast, resize, film grain, unsharp mask.
comments, please.
ps - this entry is actually a testing of the poor man's macro technique. read about it here to see how you can achieve it, without having to spend big bucks on a macro lens. boy oh boy, it sure got me really excited.
now, if only someone can tell me where to get a macro coupler ring here in malaysia. it's quite difficult holding the 50mm like how the article mentions it should be set up (19/6/06).

of waves
|
|
it may not be exactly like the big, wide field we played on ten years back. but then again, we aren't the same people we were ten years back either. much like the beach we were on, we had seen and experienced the waves of time upon us.
and much like the beach we were on, we were changed every time a wave from time hit us.
so, let it be just this one time, that we can delay the waves of time upon crashing onto us just for a short while.
just so we can be the boys of ten years back again for a short while.

okay, here's a picture taken in cherating, on the same day as the picture of athen was taken. someone told me this picture is actually more striking than the picture of athen. tah la. i like both of them for different reasons (the pictures la, not the people in the pictures!).
for this picture, i tried playing around with the color balance, levels, curves, saturation, and contrast to get a stylized look. tapi not too severe that the picture looks unnatural. i really wish i could get pictures like this guy's. you can tell the pictures are heavily edited, but tastefully done.
do tell me if the picture works on all counts, ye? dari segi lighting, composition and editing. would really love to know. i'm still a greenhorn when it comes to photoshop.

behind the scenes
|
|
i had the opportunity to tag along (or rather, menyibuk) to the pdb annual report photo shoot just a few days ago. even though i wasn't the person who would be taking the pictures for the report, i was more interested in seeing how it was done. of course, i couldn't pass up the opportunity to take some pictures myself. so, i took some 'behind the scenes' pictures, and i also took some pictures that weren't behind the scenes hehe.
i wouldn't say that i would be able to capture pictures that can be put into any annual report just yet, but at least, i know what the process is like. honestly, speaking, i had thought it would be rather spontaneous.
well, yes and no. yes because there is a small degree of spontaneity involved in these shoots to make them look natural. but the degree of spontaneity was significantly less compared to the planned aspects. angles were studied beforehand, with specific locations for each person marked on the floor. and if there were any variations, it was all done very uniformly. minute changes translated into big differences in the images. it was all a very interesting and elaborate process, just to get a few pictures.
the equipment? hmm, don't think i'm qualified or even knowledgeable enough to even start. but the photographer (forgot to get his namecard!) was quite friendly and told me and my colleague why he positioned the strobes so and so. or why he used so and so. a bit lost on me, unfortunately.
anyways, here are some pictures that i took that day. enjoy!
oh yes, comments very much welcomed too!

blue skies.
man stamping his mark.
ps - every time i look at the second picture, i'm always reminded of pearl jam's yield album. i think it's the blue sky kot (24/5/06).
