radinism, this shot was taken with a 10-20mm sigma lens.

idot60 & yuddin, thanks for the kind compliment.

ninie, sorry for the late reply! i've sent you an email with my number.

7asmann, alien feel? haha, is it because of the predominantly green colors?

lordnabil, well, it's been fun so far with the d80...

mynn, i've been meaning to upgrade to the d80 for quite some time already. was just waiting for the right time hehe. but now that the d300 has come out, hmm...

ND, glad you like the colors, bro. memang sengaja nak bagi naik warna tu, as it was the same reason that got me interested in getting the shot.

peace, 15 meters under

tranquility

i look up and spot a school of yellowtail fusiliers passing by.

but what's that, just beyond the reach of my eyes?

I still remember the day I first jumped into the open sea for a session of scuba; it was fantastic and breathtaking and yet it sent me a jolt how lucky I was to be able to eye the magnificent scenery I couldn't on land. The more I saw the view, the more grateful I was just to think that world wasn't an entity of a colossal nightmare, but rather a spectacular journey of an unknown.

The joy of exploring is so, so contagious.

abandoned

alone

alone, he walks in the shallow water.

the ominous clouds seem to foreshadow his fate, this wicked twist of destiny.

alone, he walks towards the island.

he hopes for sanctuary, from the storm that is about to break, from the mocking howls of the wind.

alone, he walks.

speechless...two thumbs up Fri 13-Jul-2007 03:54

puzzled? confused?

eh?

this particularly friendly bird seemed looking for a mate, but it approached the wrong type of candidates: us! nonetheless, we were thrilled that it was very tame (kind of whacky too actually) and didn't mind as we snapped away.

nie kat taman burung ke?ke natural habitat? i like...sket2 mcm cls gak hehe Tue 19-Jun-2007 15:03

well-renowned for its beauty, pura tanah lot is especially dramatic against the sunset.

bukit tabur

taken from that visit to bukit tabur a few moons back. i thought a vertical shot would do well, apart from giving a different feel to this scene.

zuhri, i guess i should upgrade to the d80 soon, eh? i did wake up really early to get this shot, and that was the first time i woke up at 530am just to take pictures!

shahrilramzi, thanks for the compliment.

tony, memang ada kabus pagi tu.

7asmann, you got it right. i aligned this shot according to the rule of thirds. lens flare for this? hmmm, tak sure la kalau sesuai ke tak.

ezdy, actually i edited this picture quite a bit. whether you would say 'extensively' or not, that would depend on your interpretation hehe. but basically, what i did was to reduce the exposure for the sky, so that i could bring up more details in the clouds. then, i tweaked the colors to get that deep shade of blue (this one, i tried to get the same sky color as topleftpixel.com always does; close but not quite). did a bit of dodging as well, if i remember correctly.

myn, it sure pours when it rains hehe. i think you're complementing me too much, but it's good to hear from you. i still try not to tweak my pictures too much (although that's quite a departure from no tweaking at all). however, i limit myself to what would be able to do in a wet darkroom. so, i imagine color and exposure tweaks to still be acceptable, because these can still be done in a traditional darkroom. saturation and contrast pun. beyond those, i'd say they are manipulation already.

azura, thanks for dropping by! the wispy looking sky looks a bit more dramatic than it actually is, thanks to the ultra-wide angle lens i used to get this shot. it has that effect of pulling the clouds into the middle of the picture, which i just love.

mynn, get a wide angle lens and you'll be able to get a similar shot of the clouds. it just adds drama to the whole shot. this shot was taken with jpeg. i've given up on RAW a long time ago. rasanya jpeg (large fine setting) is good enough, unless i decide to enter a competition or something. then i would probably need to squeeze every bit of detail i can get out of the shot. regarding the foreground, i did try in other shots to bring out the details, but the impact of the picture was lost. i think it's because there's too many things going on in the picture, so i'd rather the emphasis be given to the sky and sun only. even the composition of the shot reflects this emphasis.
